Zonos, the global technology firm for cross-border commerce, announced that they have appointed Tyson Hackwood as General Manager for APAC. Tyson Hackwood joins Zonos with a scope to scale the APAC business as demand for their cross-border tech continues to grow.
What does Hackwood bring to Zonos?
The rise in demand comes as more APAC brands are turning to global sales to source new clients and fill the sales gap caused by the increased interest rates, the decline in the BNPL market, and the spike in inflation. Hackwood replaces previous APAC GM, Travis Robinson, who will now take the role of Chief Strategy Officer at the firm’s Utah, U.S. headquarters.
Hackwood has been working in the digital commerce space for the last 13 years, mainly with PayPal and Braintree. He helped set up Braintree’s APAC offices in Sydney in 2013 before moving to Singapore. He returned to Sydney in 2018 and, most recently, has been working in-house at Myer on various digital initiatives, including payments and delivery options.
Clint Reid, Zonos Chief Executive Officer, Zonos commented, “We are excited to have Tyson join us as an experienced leader in ecommerce with a proven record over his 13 years of involvement in digital commerce. We look forward to working with him as he expands Zonos across APAC and builds upon the strong foundations Travis and the team have established.”
What were Hackwood’s thoughts on the new role?
Tyson Hackwood, GM APAC at Zonos, said, “I’m looking forward to working with the Zonos team to help our clients and partners leverage our cross-border commerce tech to drive exceptional customer experiences and incremental revenue. An increasing number of APAC merchants are taking advantage of the fluctuation in economic conditions to invest in borderless trade to engage new clients, so it is a dynamic time to be joining the business.”
Zonos opened their first international office on the Gold Coast in October 2021 to meet the needs of their growing APAC business. The firm chose the Gold Coast rather than a larger Australian metropolitan city because it closely mirrors the company’s culture of supporting a healthy work-life balance by living and working where others play. Zonos’ U.S. headquarters is in St. George, Utah, U.S., a city known for its sunshine and rapidly developing tech sector.
