UST recognised as a Top Employer for 2023 in Australia and Asia Pacific

Matthew McCormack, Managing Director for ANZ at UST

The Top Employers Institute has announced UST Australia as one of its Top Employers for 2023 in Australia and APAC. Certification as a Top Employer recognises a firm’s dedication to a better world of work, demonstrated through excellent HR policies and people practices.

Why did UST Australia win in this category?

The driving factor behind UST’s certification lies in its dedication to employee wellbeing, cultivating a workplace that puts people first. UST has shown this through various initiatives implemented for employees, such as flexible remote and hybrid working arrangements.

Additionally, UST Australia has built a culture focused on outcomes, rather than output. This means it provides its team with the freedom, autonomy and trust to complete the job in a way that suits each individual’s lifestyle, breaking down the traditional 9-5 workday.

Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink says: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. And we have witnessed this in our Top Employers Certification Program this year: exceptional performance from the certified Top Employers 2023. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and well-being of their people.”

“By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-oriented employers: the Top Employers 2023.”

What does the recognition mean for UST?

“By prioritising our employees’ mental and physical wellbeing, we create an environment that supports our employees in all aspects, empowering them to achieve great results because they want to,” said Matthew McCormack, Managing Director for ANZ at UST.

“Employee experience has always been UST Australia’s focus, and this has served us well in attracting and retaining the very best talent. Professionals today expect employee wellbeing to be a top priority, and this is an area UST Australia has succeeded in,” McCormack said.

“A culture is not something that is implemented by the leadership team, but something that is driven by every team member. At UST Australia, we understand how important flexibility is to our team, which is why we implemented a remote working policy, before it was the trend.”

“For me, going into the office is more of a social outing where I spend time with people who inspire me; but for others it might be a necessity to find a place of concentration. The point is, we aren’t looking at how much someone is working, but focusing on achieving results.”

The Top Employers Institute program certifies firms based on the results of their HR Best Practices Survey. This survey covers six domains consisting of 20 topics; People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Wellbeing etc. The program has recognised 2,053 Top Employers in 121 countries across five continents.
