Joining the ever growing list of sustainable brands that are shaking up the fashion industry, Texcoco Collective is a luxury fashion accessory brand committed to eco-conscious design, environmental conservation. They celebrate the designers of our products and aim to empower women to have functional pieces without compromising on their standards.
Texcoco Collective offers a range of eco-luxe vegan leather handbags. It’s one of few sustainable Australian labels that works with Mexican artisans to craft beautiful vegan bags made from Mexican cactus leather, actively helping to turn the tide on wasteful practices.
What makes it Texcoco a sustainable brand?
More than ever as a global society we are aware of our impact on the environment and the power that our purchasing decisions have. As businesses we are the ones that bring products to the people, so we are on the front line of deciding to make products that are better for the environment and cause the least amount of harm to nature, animals and humans.
With sustainability as the driving force, Texcoco bags are produced in small batches by family owned handbag manufacturers in Guanajuato, Mexico. Packaging is 100% recyclable and for each bag sold one tree is planted to reforest habitats in Australia effected by the 2020 fires.
- The cactus farm is fully organic, no herbicides or pesticides are used on the farm.
- It will save hundreds of litres of water compared to cow leather.
- Cactus sucks high amounts of Co2 from our atmosphere.
- Ethical manufacturing by family run business in Mexico.
- Partially biodegradable and doesn’t contain any plastic
- Cactus leather is: PETA certified, BCorp certified, USDA Organic, OEKO-TEX standard.
Who is behind the Texcoco brand?
From graduating with a honors degree in photography, to starting an international volunteer agency, Monique Montfroy is turning her attention to creating a sustainable brand that shares awareness of the impact we have on the world around us. “I’ve always been deeply passionate about the human condition and caring for our natural world.” she says.
Having spent time in Mexico and central America working with artisans and environmental activists Monique knew this is where her attention should go next. The collection takes a lot of inspiration from the colours, textures and shapes of these culturally rich nations.
When selecting the first handbags for Texcoco Collective Monique wanted to emulate the feelings experienced when travelling through the incredible landscapes of Central America. The bags had to be practical yet beautiful reflecting the beautiful yet rugged environment.
“I wanted to send a message that we can enjoy beautiful goods without harming the environment. It is important to me to make conscious choices and be aware of my environmental footprint, while still being practical and looking elegant,” Monique says.
Monique wants to make vegan leather more accessible for everyone to choose from. Aimed at your young, stylish eco warrior, your mum who wants to make a difference, or your businesswoman who wants a bag that will take her places in style, Texcoco Collective features five stunning designs made with the environment, fashion, and function in mind.
“We believe in buying less, and choosing better — our bags are designed to last, for timeless style and capsule wardrobes. Our bags are made with the planet and its people in mind. This chic yet practical collection is changing the face of high fashion accessories as we know it.”
