Online meat delivery service ‘Our Cow’ a brainchild of farmers Bianca Tarrant and David McGiveron following devastating bushfires and floods at their northern NSW property, is preparing for expansion with the launch of a $3m crowdfunding campaign. Our Cow is using VentureCrowd to raise equity to continue the company’s extraordinary growth trajectory.
“For us it’s about investing in the future of food,” says Ms Tarrant.
“We’re a genuine Aussie family who live on the land. We’re transparent in what we do and I think people gravitate towards authenticity and knowing where their food comes from.”
What is the growth rate of Our Cow?
The business, which offers an exclusive meat box subscription to members, is now estimated to be worth $30 million with 100 farmers across Queensland and New South Wales supplying them and more than 40,000 customers on their books. During COVID the business grew 1200% in just 12 months and it boasts a 90% retention rate with customers.
They are now processing 25-30 tonnes of meat a week, mainly shipping it to Australians in the big cities who are big on buying from the bush. “It started out of pure necessity, we went through rough times after the drought, then a bushfire came through and burned out seventy percent of our property. We had to offload a lot of cows,” Ms Tarrant further commented.
“Prices at the sale yards were so low when we had to sell that we had to find another way to keep going. We started selling cuts of beef to families through social media and demand just skyrocketed. We couldn’t believe the support we received from communities that were so distant from us, it showed us how far reaching the support for farmers is.”
Who can invest in Our Cow?
Customers and farmers are now being given the first opportunity to invest in the company which plans to move into the WA and Tasmanian markets later this month.
“A lot of our farmers have already shown interest in investing and becoming a business partner because it secures their future as well,” concluded Ms Tarrant.
Expressions of interest are now open. For more information on the capital raise visit.
