Australian Business woman of the year sending a slice of sweet hope to COVID-19 impacted hospitals

Kate Toon is spreading a little joy to the front-line health workers in Sydney’s most affected COVID-19 postcodes, by sending cookies of positivity as a way of saying thanks.

The ‘You Are Awesome’ cookies, complete with a smiley sunshine face designed by Kate Toon and her team, have been created with the help of Adriana from Adri’s Gingerbread.

They are Kate’s way of showing appreciation to the nurses who are doing it tough.

“Its not a huge contribution, but like all small business owners right now, I’m doing it tough.”

“I wanted to do something that would show the frontline workers like nurses and doctors that they are appreciated and facilitate bringing a little smile to their day,” says Kate.

Initially, hundreds of the cookies will be sent to four hospitals that have been heavily affected by the Covid crisis, Westmead, Nepean, St George and Liverpool hospitals.

“Nurses said that the night shift workers often miss out. We are sending different boxes for different shifts, in the hope that everyone will share in this little sweet moment,” says Kate.

“I thought about an COVID-19 message, but in the end, I finally decided that what we all need right now is a ray of sunshine and positivity. A break from the doom and gloom.”

Adriana from Adri’s Gingerbread said she’s happy to be providing a bit of support to the project, “Life is pretty hard for so many at the moment, a little treat might just help a little.”

Kate Toon has a social media following of more than 55,000, and she’s shared her cookie plans online and been inundated with offers of support from other business owners as a result.

Kate has started a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to send more cookies to frontline workers.

“I’m hopeful that with the support of other businesses we can send even more cookies, and bring some warm and fuzzies to the frontline workers who need it most,” says Kate.
