New research by InMobi shows that mobile will drive retail shopping this festive season.
InMobi found mobile shopping to be no longer for low cost items as 42% of mobile shoppers are set to spend nearly twice the amount of those who shop in person or on desktops.
InMobi unveils the 2021 Holiday Shopping report
The findings are part of the “2021 Holiday Shopping: What Brands and Retailers Need to Know” research report released by InMobi, a leading provider of content, monetization and marketing technologies that facilitate businesses to fuel comprehensive growth and market strategy.
The report also found that while traditionally Australian consumers have been more comfortable going to retail stores for their festive season shopping, this year, 77% of Australians intend to use the internet as a virtual channel throughout their shopping journey.
A combination of concerns over COVID-19 related safety, reduced budgets plus fewer deals and offers means that just 34% of Australians have not yet made concrete shopping plans.
Savvy marketers have an opportunity to target consumers in shopping through deploying mobile-based strategies which have increased dramatically, since the pandemic’s start.
1 in 3 shoppers intend to use a mobile to make their purchases and 39% plan to research using their mobile phone, compared to 47% of shoppers who plan to purchase goods in-store.
The InMobi report also further found that 86% of holiday shoppers are bargain hunters, thus offering savvy brands a significant opportunity to target them with mobile-based offers.
InMobi’s comments on the 2021 Holiday Shopping report
Richard O’Sullivan is the Vice President and General Manager for Australia and New Zealand at InMobi. He offered supplementary insights about the findings of the released report.
“Holiday shopping plans were impacted by the pandemic but as we begin to re-open, brands will foster meaningful connections with shoppers as the sense of normalcy returns.”
“Brands will make most of these connections via the mobile phone with over 34% of all Australians discovering new products online such as Shoppable Media and mCommerce.”
Convenience (74%), free shipping (55%) and ease of payments and the range of products (51%) were the top three reasons cited by consumers for shopping on their mobile.
The 2021 Holiday Shopping report is based on a survey of five hundred mobile users in Australia between 18th August and 1st September 2021 on the InMobi Pulse Platform.
