Global geo-data firm Fugro partners with Aussie drone maker Carbonix

Fugro is partnering with Australian drone manufacturer Carbonix to establish a new long-range drone capability. It is Fugro’s first partnership working towards long-range Beyond Visual Line of Sight missions (BVLoS), bolstering Fugro’s existing Geographic Information System (GIS) capability. Carbonix will supply Volanti and Ottano vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones over the next 27 months, to further enhance Fugro’s remote operations.

Scientists discover superconducting qubit to boost quantum computers

A group of scientists from IQM Quantum Computers, Aalto University, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland have discovered a superconducting qubit, the unimon, to increase the accuracy of quantum computations. The team has achieved the first quantum logic gates with unimons at 99.9% fidelity — a milestone on the quest to build commercially useful quantum computers. This research was just published in the journal Nature Communications.

Sisvel announces its Cellular IoT Patent Pool to aid balanced choices

Sisvel International S.A. (Sisvel) launched of its Cellular IoT (C-IoT) Patent Pool consisting of 20 patent owners. The pool offers a single solution to license standard essential patents (SEPs) essential for the use of the LPWAN standards LTE-M and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT). Sisvel is joined by ASUSTek, Datang, Ericsson, ETRI, Innovative Sonic, JVCKENWOOD, KDDI, MediaTek, Mitsubishi Electric, NTT DOCOMO, Optis Cellular, Optis Wireless, Orange, Pantech, Shanghai Langbo, Sony Group Corporation, Telefónica, Unwired Planet and one additional company to be announced soon. The pool remains open for participants that hold relevant patents. The C-IoT pool’s initial main focus will be on smart meters and asset trackers.

S. Australia using drone technology for power grid maintenance works

Aussie drone maker, Carbonix has partnered with SA Power Networks and communications tech Nokia,  provider to advance the use of long-range Un-Crewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in aerial inspection work and flood monitoring on remote electricity distribution network assets. In the initial phase of the partnership a Carbonix Volanti UAV was used to prove the Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) capability using Nokia private wireless solution, Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) for industrial-grade reliable and long-range wireless network connectivity. This paved the way for a continuation of the partnership in which Carbonix UAVs showed LiDAR capabilities for maintenance and flood water monitoring at asset locations.

Entrepreneur Sanandan (Sandy) Sudhir, who created quite some ripples in Shark Tank with the fastest cooking device, has declared that his startup On2Cook India Pvt Ltd has secured seed funding of over $2m. The round was led by angel investor Dr Mayur Desai, who infused the first tranche of Rs 16 crore for 16% equity, reaffirming the startup’s valuation at $12.5m.
