The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), a Hong Kong-based non-profit firm dedicated to pursuing excellence in journalism, announced the finalists for the SOPA 2022 Awards (full list). Global, regional and local media outlets submitted over 750 entries in English and Chinese. SOPA is celebrating the 40th anniversary since its founding in Hong Kong in 1982. The annual awards recognizing great journalism in the Asia Pacific region have been given out every year since 1999. This year’s winners will be announced on June 16 at the virtual SOPA Awards Gala and live-streamed on SOPA Asia’s YouTube channel from 7pm Hong Kong time.

Hackathon back as MetLife looks to lure top technology talent in Malaysia

MetLife is hosting a virtual hackathon in October, as it seeks top tech talent to join the firm in one of its fast growing regions. “Hack4Job Coding Challenge – Kuala Lumpur” on Oct 14-16 will pit teams from across the world in a race to build innovative solutions and win prizes. At the end of the hackathon, qualifying participants will be invited to interview for a range of software development and cloud engineering roles in MetLife and its affiliates. MetLife is targeting dozens of roles, including infrastructure engineers, solutions architects, scrum masters and full stack engineers, as part a broader push into Malaysia and the Asian region.

The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), an organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in journalism, announced that the SOPA 2023 Awards for Editorial Excellence are open for entries. The deadline for submissions is 3pm Hong Kong time on February 16, 2023. The SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence are celebrating their 25th anniversary next year. The awards span 21 categories and are divided into three groups according to language and size of the publication: Global and Regional, both in English language, and Chinese language.
