The Society of Publishers in Asia casts 2022 journalism awards finalists

The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), a Hong Kong-based non-profit firm dedicated to pursuing excellence in journalism, announced the finalists for the SOPA 2022 Awards (full list). Global, regional and local media outlets submitted over 750 entries in English and Chinese. SOPA is celebrating the 40th anniversary since its founding in Hong Kong in 1982. The annual awards recognizing great journalism in the Asia Pacific region have been given out every year since 1999. This year’s winners will be announced on June 16 at the virtual SOPA Awards Gala and live-streamed on SOPA Asia’s YouTube channel from 7pm Hong Kong time.

GCCA launches program to support sustainable tech by industry startups

The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) revealed the first six start-ups that will be backed by its member companies as part of the first ever Innovandi ‘Open Challenge’ in the race to ‘net zero’ by 2050. The six start-ups, which were chosen from more than 100 entrants to the Open Challenge, hail from the USA, Canada, UK, Italy and the Netherlands.

WLA renews grants for Aboriginal and Torres Strait leadership development

For a fifth straight year, Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) has renewed attendance grants to support leadership development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in Australia. Valued at over $60,000 in total, the grants will be offered to current and aspiring women leaders to attend a national series of Symposium events focused on the experiences of women in the contemporary workforce. There are a total of 32 attendance tickets on offer for the ‘in-person’ Symposiums and 18 tickets available for the online Symposium.

HubSpot, the customer relationship management (CRM) platform for scaling companies, announced the launch of ‘The Great Upskill’, which will see brands across APAC including Google ANZ, MessageMedia, Meltwater, Seismic, and Aircall, give their employees a full workday during the week of May 9–13 to dedicate to upskilling and job-related learning. The movement comes on the back of research from HubSpot, which found 71% of Aussie workers wish their employer placed higher value on job-related learning and upskilling, with four out of five saying it’s bumped to the bottom of the to-do list when work gets busy. 

Estée Lauder launches ELEL fund to advance women redefining leadership

Estée Lauder, the flagship brand of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., announced the launch of the Estée Lauder Emerging Leaders (ELEL) Fund, a charitable fund under The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation. The fund’s mission is to redefine leadership by supporting a new generation of emerging women leaders and challenging leadership gender stereotypes. The Fund will support firms that provide opportunities for leadership development, cultivate supportive communities and advocate for emerging leaders who have a vision for change.

Brand Jamaica predicted to leverage opportunities for manufacturers

Brand Jamaica will be highlighted at the 126th staging of Penn Relays, which will be held from April 28-30, 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Five Jamaican manufacturers, Annilu Ltd, Herboo, King’s Jamaican Health and Wellness, Bresheh, and Shavuot International, will chat with buyers and retailers to promote their products thus increase Jamaica’s export sales. The trade mission is taking place as part of the export development programme Export Max III, which is led by JAMPRO, the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA). The event will highlight the island’s diverse manufacturing sector, and the products that are available for export.

Samsung premieres its B2B partner program for enterprise in Australia

Samsung Electronics Australia unveiled Samsung One, the company’s new flagship business partner program, which will initially be offered to select Samsung distributors for its Mobile Experience division. The products and solutions included within the Mobile Experience portfolio include smartphones, tablets, wearables and Samsung Knox security and mobility services. The initiative combines marketing toolkits, sales enablement assets, product information, news and commercial incentives through a single platform, and a training program that can be accessed via desktop/mobile app. Plans are underway to introduce a rewards program.

Vista offers marketing support grants to flood impacted small businesses

SMBs across flood impacted regions are set to gain access to critical marketing and design support via SMB champion, Vista. The design, digital and print partner to SMBs in Australia is launching an initiative to empower 25 small businesses with $25,000 in dedicated grants, aimed at supporting their road to recovery and ability to get back to business post-floods. The impact of the devastating flood events is set to compound an already challenging period in Australia, with the 2021 Vistaprint Small Business Recovery Report highlighting that a third (32%) of Aussie small businesses felt marketing (32%) and financial support (33%) were their biggest challenges and one in 10 (10%) calling out design as their key pain point.
