me&u, Australia’s mobile ordering & payment platform for cafes, restaurants and pubs, today brings its customers Apple Pay, which is transforming payments with an easy, safe, secure and private way to pay in venues across Australia and helping customers avoid handing their payment card to someone else, touching physical buttons or exchanging cash.
As well as paying with Apple Pay, me&u customers in participating venues will also have the ability to order from their iPhone, without having to download an app, grab their wallet or stand in a queue.
How does this service work?
They simply ‘tap on’ the me&u NFC beacon with iPhone to display the venue’s beautiful visual menu and then place their order, including making their payment with Apple Pay.
Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When customers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers.
Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on the device.
“In today’s current climate, Aussies are moving towards contactless options for both safety and convenience. Ordering and paying at your local cafe or pub on your mobile phone has been the missing piece of the consumer puzzle, until now.
We’re happy to be providing customers with a beautiful, safe and seamless user experience which eliminates the need to touch a menu, queue at the bar or wait eight minutes to pay the bill,” said Premutico.
COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption of contactless payments with 95% of Australians wanting to pay via their mobile device or on card according to a recent analysis by me&u.
Over the last couple of months, during the soft launch period, me&u showed exceptionally high uptake of Apple Pay with over 40% of all customers choosing to pay this way.
“There’s also a need for speed in today’s convenience rich culture and we are thrilled to be offering contactless ordering and payments to make our hospitality experiences easier, faster and more magical than ever before.” said Stevan Premutico, founder of me&u.
“Apple Pay absolutely changes the game for customers’ convenience, with operators benefiting from it too. We are seeing customers spend 10-15% more simply because it’s now easier and faster to order,” added Premutico.
“Our record is a customer ordering a beer in under 15 seconds, which is just nuts, and something we are super proud of. From day one we have always been frustrated with the idea that you can get an Uber to your house faster than you can order a beer in a pub.
Today we changed that. It’s a complete end-to-end experience like no other; just tap, order and pay. It’s as easy as that.” added Premutico.
Apple Pay is now available across hundreds of me&u venues including The Rockpool Group, The Opera Bar, Solotel Group, Colonial Leisure Group, Coogee Pavilion, Watsons Bay Hotel, Barangaroo House, Moon Dog World,
Riverbar & Kitchen, Howard Smith Wharves, The Portsea Hotel, The Fiddler, The Camfield and many more.
Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by their credit and debit cards.
With iPhone and Apple Watch, customers can pay with Apple Pay in stores, restaurants, taxis, vending machines and many more places.
Every Apple Pay purchase is authenticated with just a glance or a touch with Face ID or Touch ID, or a device’s passcode.
