Aussie drone tech company, Aerologix, has completed a $4.2m funding round led by Ellerston Capital and Lindsay Phillips‘ Nightingale Partners who followed on from their earlier pre-seed funding round. Aerologix will use the capital to invest in additional research and development, bolstering its commercial team and supporting the company’s expansion internationally.
Co-founder Tom Caska said, “We’re thrilled to be backed by Ellerston Capital and to receive a second round of support from Nightingale. It’s validation of our vision and commercial viability. We’re excited to expand here at home and in Asia and Europe in the near future.”
What is Aerologix’s market reach?
Aerologix was co-founded in 2019 by ex-airline pilot Tom Caska and former tech consultant Rakesh Routhu who met while undertaking their MBAs. Dubbed the “Uber for drones”, the platform connects drone pilots with enterprises or individuals that need drone imaging.
The platform’s capabilities include high quality aerial panoramas, video tours of properties and detailed analytics of large-scale construction projects. The platform aims to improve sustainability and efficiency for clients and provide a seamless flight experience for the pilot.
In recent years, the company has thrown a career lifeline to airline pilots that have been stood down or had their flying hours reduced due to the pandemic. In the past year, Aerologix has grown its network of pilots from 500 to more than 10,000 across Australia.
What does Ellerston think of Aerologix?
Ellerston’s Stuart Robertson said “Aerologix benefits from being a key tech platform that enables drone pilots to complete data captures for firms that have vital infrastructure. We are pleased to support Aerologix’s accelerated growth ambitions in Australia and globally.”
Aerologix was recently onboarded into the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) “digital sky platform”, allowing pilots to utilise its Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) network providing access to RPA-related advisories, and regulatory information, weather updates and location-based information with easy to use maps showing where pilots can and can’t fly.
Aerologix is the first Australian drone technology company with both iOS and Android apps approved and integrated with the CASA digital sky platform. Aerologix has also received funding from the University of New South Wales’s 10x Accelerator program.
